LEO'S HALL
The Leo Club Program objective is:
"To provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for
development and contribution, individually and collectively, as
responsible members of the local, national, and international
community."
The Leo Club Motto is:
Leadership - Leos develop skills as organizers, time managers,
and motivators of their peers.
Experience - Leos learn the importance of cooperation through
the performance of community service.
Opportunity - Membership in a Leo club provides young people
with a chance to excel, to develop character traits, and to
receive recognition for their contributions to the community.
In 2002, existing Leo clubs declared themselves as either Alpha
or Omega Leo clubs.
Members of Alpha Leo clubs are between the ages of 12 and
the legal age of majority in their country.
Omega Leo club members are between the legal age of
majority in their country and an age deemed appropriate by the
multiple district. All other requirements are identical for Alpha
and Omega Leo clubs.
All Leo clubs have been asked to declare their clubs as either
Alpha or Omega Leo Clubs. Age-appropriate publications will be
mailed to Alpha and Omega Leo clubs.
Alpha Leo club advisors will accept a more active role in guiding
young Leos to plan effective meetings and successful service
projects. Omega Leo club advisors will serve mainly as liaisons
between the Leo club and the sponsoring Lions club.
Membership Benefits
Since 1957, thousands of young people have benefited from
membership in the Leo Club Program. Some of these benefits
are tangible; others are intangible.
Making new friends and viewing the world through another's
perspective are two of the benefits of Leo service. As
community volunteers, Leos often develop confidence and
organization skills through this hands-on experience.
Leo club and district offices help young people develop these
skills. In Multiple District 305, Pakistan, Leos participated in a
leadership camp to develop motivational and organizational
skills. Members of the Athens (Psichikon), Greece Leo Club
participated in a Leo seminar organized by their sponsoring
Lions club.
Another benefit of Leo club membership is experiencing
teamwork. The Bandirma (Balikesir) Leos, Turkey, organized
a fundraising dinner. Proceeds from the dinner benefited
children in need. In Cyprus, members of the Famagusta Leo
Club worked together to create a successful car wash
fundraiser.
Membership in a Leo club also develops fellowship and
camaraderie. One of the many activities enjoyed by the Tokai
Leo Club, Republic of South Africa, is bowling. The Leos have
also enjoyed attending theater events together, playing active
cricket, taking hikes, and playing the Trivial Pursuit board
game.
As members of a worldwide organization, Leos have
international benefits as well. Leos often participate in the
Lions international youth camp and youth exchange programs.
Leo clubs also participate in the Leo club twinning program.
Recently, the Coronel Bogado "SUCA" Leos, Paraguay,
twinned with the Porto Xavier Leos in neighboring Brazil.

Clubs, districts, and multiple districts may also charge a Leo
club entrance fee.
International Leo Project
In April 2005, the Lions International Board of Directors
approved Spotlight on Children as the International Service
Project for Leo clubs.
Leo clubs are encouraged to develop a project for children in
adverse circumstances. An ideal day to implement a Spotlight
on Children project is December 5, International Leo Day.
To view the Spotlight on Children brochure, click here.
Project examples include:
• providing clothing for needy children
• collecting books for students
• repairing a playground
• visiting children in the hospital
• volunteering during a Special Olympics tournament
• raising funds for UNICEF (UN Children's Fund).
Leo clubs that complete a Spotlight on Children project can
apply for a banner patch award. Individual Leos who provide
a high level of support for a Spotlight on Children project can
receive a Certificate of Recognition. Click here for the banner
patch award application.
